For many states in the Midwest and Northeast, February can become quite the icy cold winter wonderland.

Despite the cold weather, there many indoor and outdoor activities that are available and not bust your budget.  Find a family-oriented and budget-friendly bucket list for the month of February below.

We invite you and your family to enjoy completing these February activities. Utilize our February 2019 Bucket List to assist in checking out the below bucket items. At the end of the month, we would love to hear about your favorite activity thus far!

February Bucket List

  • Go Sledding/Tubing – After being cooped up in the house quite a bit during those cold winter days, getting out for some carefree fun and fresh air is probably just what you need. Remember to dress up warm in layers and remind yourself what is like to slide down snow-covered hills! This perhaps could be the best low-cost way to make memories with your family and friends.
  • Attend An Ice Festival – Going out and embracing the cold to admire the art of ice sculpting can be quite magical around this time of year. Some of my favorite winter memories with my love are attending our local “Magical Ice Festival”. Every year, the festival attracts more ice sculptures that enhance the experience. We also loved stopping at one of our favorite coffee shops to help stay warm as we stroll downtown to view the many ice sculptures.
  • Try a Winter Sports Activity – There are so many exciting winter sports activities that can bring new experiences to you and your family. Enjoy a day of ice skating at your local indoor or outdoor skating rink. Visit your local nature center or state/national Park to try out downhill or cross country skiing. Many places will provide instructions and allow you to test run smaller zones if you are a beginner. Depending on your location and your budget, enjoy visiting your local ski lodge/resort for a day or weekend of winter fun skiing or snowboarding.
  • Play In The Snow – The possibilities are endless when choosing to play in the snow. Enjoy your time outside building the best snowman or see how big you can make an igloo or fort. Try making a snow angel without footprints inside or partake in a safe snowball fight.
  • Attend a Hockey Game – I have never been one to be totally into Hockey, but the few games that I have attended have brought great memories. To help from not breaking the budget, we have elected to attend our local Universities Hockey games. You can get the same excitement as a profession game but saves the budget greatly!
  • Send Flowers To Someone – Spread the love this season by sending a flower or flowers to a loved one, family member, friend or even a stranger. February is a perfect time to continue the spirit of giving by sending love to those who truly need it this year. Lower your cost of giving by opting for plants, paper flower bouquets, or fruit bouquets!
  • Watch The Super Bowl – This fun low-cost activity can be enjoyed within your own home, at a friend or family members home, or even a local club. I would opt-in for your own home or friends to help keep your budget in check. Even if you are not into team sports, the commercials and the half-time show still make the activity worthwhile. What team will you root for this year?

  • Enjoy A Bowl of Soup – We love comfort foods that bring warmth during the cold months. Whether participating in a chili cook-off, serving soup to the community or trying out new recipes, enjoying a bowl of soup can promote health, save on your budget and create fellowship. What is one of your all-time favorite soups?
  • Send Valentine’s Cards –There is nothing like still receiving Valentine’s from your family, friends, and associates. Bring back the fun and celebration of Valentine’s Day by sending cards to those we enjoy being around or love dearly. There are many low-cost ways to send Valentine’s cards. Check out your local thrift stores, dollar stores or craft store to make them yourself. Don’t let your children be the only ones celebrating Valentine’s Day this year!
  • Decorate For Valentine’s Day – Enhance the feelings of love that appears to saturate February for many by decorating your space for the holiday. There are many budget-friendly decorations such as window clings, heart wreaths, heart garlands and so much more that can be found at dollar stores or you can make them yourselves. This can be a fun low-cost way to entertain the family while also creating memories for years to come.
  • Volunteer, You’re Time – Consider giving back this year! Many local businesses and organizations have ample opportunities for volunteers. Volunteering does not only help others, but it can also enhance your mood and bonding experience with others. Check out your local not-for-profit organizations to find a variety of volunteer options!
  • Watch Winter Themed Movies – We would say there is nothing better than snuggling up with blankets and the family for a weekly movie night. We have many, many family favorites. Check out some of these favorites below.
    • Frozen
    • The Chronicles of Narnia Series
    • Jack Frost
  • Read Winter/Valentine Themed Books – Incorporating story time into your daily routine can bring many benefits into your life. It is a low-cost activity, it promotes academic achievement, sparks creativity, and imagination and creates bonding memories. We like to complete story time with our daughters especially as we get ready for bed. We like to find books being read-aloud on Youtube to help change things up. Especially after we have read most of the books on our shelves and the Library is quite open at bedtime. Below are some of our favorites to listen to during this wintery and Valentine season!
  • Keep Working Towards Your 2019 Goals – Did you set new goals for yourself or your family this New Year? If so, make sure you’re checking in and taking the necessary actions to reach your 2019 goals. If you haven’t set goals yet, it is not too late to do so. Goals can be set on any hour, day, week, or month. Continue your motivation to move towards your goals by making them visible throughout the day. Try making a vision board that you will see multiple times throughout the day.

Are you list type of person? Has utilizing monthly bucket list changed your life? What is one thing that you are looking most forward to this Valentine’s Day? Share your thoughts in the comments!
